China DID meddle in 2020 presidential vote and intel officials hid it from Trump, unnerving report reveals
The Chinese did, in fact, meddle in the 2020 presidential vote in the United States, and the intelligence community did hide that information from President Donald Trump.
That’s according to a new investigative report at Just the News on the clouded vote results that already are known to have been under the undue influence of two factors.
Those are the FBI’s decision to interfere by falsely claiming that accurate information about Biden family scandals revealed in a laptop abandoned by Hunter Biden was Russian disinformation and Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to put his thumb on the scale by handing out $400 million plus to local elections officials who often used the cash to recruit voters in Democrat districts.
Now, the new report reveals that those inside America’s intel industry knew of the Chinese influence efforts, but worked to keep Trump from knowing.
One “analyst,” in fact, demanded of the information about China’s meddling that, “I don’t want my analysis going to the White House where that vulgarian … in the White House will use it to pursue policies toward China with which I personally disagreel”
That quote, from the unidentified analyst, was confirmed by analytic ombudsman Barry Zulauf, who conducted a review of the spy community’s handling of Russian versus Chinese meddling efforts during the 2020 election, the report said.
“Among his conclusions was that intelligence analysts downplayed China’s actions because they had disdain for the ‘vulgarian’ Trump and did not want to support the policies and priorities of the Trump administration toward China with which they ‘personally disagree,'” the report charged.
The revelations come from a 2021 report by Zulauf, which heretofore has not been cited.
It has been reported that the U.S. intelligence community “has known since early 2020 that Beijing also gained access to American voter registration data and used that information to conduct opinion analysis related to the presidential election between Trump and then-former Vice President Joe Biden,” Just the News documented.
The publication noted much about China’s activities remains hidden behind the “classified” label, but it reviewed public assessments, indictments and more.
“There is credible evidence that Chinese government-linked cyber hackers and Chinese social media troll farms took aim at the U.S. presidential election in 2020 and sought to undercut Trump during his run against now-former President Biden. There are also indicators that Chinese intelligence and law enforcement agencies — China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) and its Ministry of Public Security (MPS) — also played a role in 2020,” Just the News documented.
Zulauf found, “Given analytic differences in the way Russia and China analysts examined their targets, China analysts appeared hesitant to assess Chinese actions as undue influence or interference. These analysts appeared reluctant to have their analysis on China brought forward because they tended to disagree with the Administration’s policies, saying in effect, I don’t want our intelligence used to support those policies.”
The National Intelligence Council at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence later said a “majority view” was that China did not try to meddle in the vote, but a minority opinion said China did try to hurt Trump’s campaign.
At the time, the national intelligence officer for cyber, Christopher Porter, said, “The National Intelligence Officer for Cyber assesses that China took at least some steps to undermine former President Trump’s reelection chances, primarily through social media and official public statements and media.”
In fact, the report said, “The long-running and Chinese state-sponsored ‘Spamouflage Dragon’ and ‘Dragon Bridge’ online influence campaigns conducted around the world — and aimed at Trump administration policies and Trump himself during the 2020 election — have been repeatedly tied to Chinese law enforcement and China’s MPS, including its 912 Special Working Group.”
