Dartford Community Update
Last school term we ran something called One-to-One, a unique project involving Oakfield and Wentworth schools.
Pupils designed their own playing football card as part of an art competition with Sam Odaudu popping in to help! We will eventually judge them and pick the winners.
We applied for funding from the Isthmian League to do a reading-style program in 10 primary schools. They accepted it and it has now begun, where schools have identified children that struggle to read or have no interest in it, and they sit with the coaches and bring their own book, or the coaches can pick a book for them to read with them. It’s something that we have found can inspire children to read.
A fortnight ago we had an International Women’s Day tournament at seven secondary schools, with just girls involved which was a big success.
There were a couple of football competitions last week – one, the Premier League Shield. We invited 16 schools to it and they were split into two groups. Another 16 were invited to the DFC Community Cup this Wednesday, and there’ll be two winners from the two. The photo above is of Sutton at Hone – The Premier League Shield Winners.
It’s been a pretty busy term, but now we are planning lots of trials for many of the grass roots teams which will be advertised for people to register.
It’s getting to the business end of the season, with lots of teams contesting for their league titles or cups, so we’ll keep supporters updated as we get through the next few months.
