Three things to expect from Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid in Champions League showdown
Tottenham Hotspur need to win by at least three goals to have any chance of progressing past Atletico Madrid, but there are some positives to reflect on ahead of the match.
Here are three things to expect from Tottenham Hotspur in what could end up being the greatest match of the club’s season.
Injured players will return for Tottenham
It has been revealed that Cristian Romero and Lucas Bergvall both trained for Spurs on Tuesday morning, and they were also joined by Destiny Udogie.
The Tottenham captain is likely to start, while Bergvall and Udogie will be named in Igor Tudor’s matchday squad. This is really positive news, especially as Bergvall was meant to be on the sidelines for much longer.
Both players could well feature at some point in the second half. However, Tudor must not rush them and risk even further injuries. Putting this down as something to expect is a bit far, but it would not be out of the ordinary for a Spurs player to return, only to immediately get injured.
Igor Tudor will stick with a back four
Tottenham were much better in defence against Liverpool, which surely means Tudor will play four at the back again.
If Romero has fully recovered from his head knock last week, he will definitely start. Kevin Danso may be hoping to play too, considering how good he was against Liverpool.
However, Micky van de Ven is unlikely to be dropped, especially since he will be fresh after skipping the clash at Anfield due to a suspension.
Radu Dragusin is another option, but it would be highly unlikely to see him feature at all. The Romanian was less than impressive on Sunday and is still struggling to make basic passes.
Randal Kolo Muani will return to the Tottenham starting XI
Richarlison was the hero at the weekend, but he is unable to take part against Atletico due to a yellow card suspension.
If Spurs opt to go with two strikers, then Randal Kolo Muani will likely partner Dominic Solanke, while the Frenchman could also be utilised on the right wing.
After all, he made good use of his 15-minute appearance against Liverpool, assisting Richarlison in the closing stages of the game.
Alternatively, Muani could play on the left wing instead of Mathys Tel. Whatever the case, it will be surprising if he is not selected to play from the get-go.
