Israeli Strike Kills Senior Iranian Official Larijani, No Response from Tehran
Israel confirmed that senior Iranian official Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, was killed in a Monday night airstrike, according to statements by Defense Minister Israel Katz and the Israeli military.
The Israeli army said the operation was a “precise strike” carried out by the air force based on intelligence from military intelligence and Mossad, targeting Larijani as a key figure.
Earlier reports had indicated that Israel launched coordinated strikes in Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz, though initial official statements did not specify Larijani as a target.
Iranian authorities have not issued an official response so far, while domestic media circulated a handwritten note attributed to Larijani, attempting to suggest he was still alive.
Larijani, 67, had emerged as a central political figure in recent months, with a long career spanning roles as parliament speaker, nuclear negotiator, and senior security adviser closely aligned with Iran’s leadership.
He was also known for his deep ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and was considered a key figure in both internal security matters and broader strategic decision-making.
Analysts say his killing, if fully confirmed, would mark one of the most significant blows to Iran’s leadership structure in recent years, potentially escalating tensions with Israel.
Earlier, the United States had announced rewards of up to 10 million dollars for information on senior Iranian military and intelligence figures, including Larijani.
Israeli media also reported that the strikes targeted Basij chief Gholamreza Soleimani and other senior commanders, with the full extent and impact of the operation still unclear.
