A short break service run by a disabled children’s charity has once again been awarded the highest possible Ofsted rating.
Dragon’s Retreat, operated by We Are Beams based in Hextable, near Swanley, has been branded ‘Outstanding’ by the education watchdog for the second time running following an inspection.
Inspectors found staff provide highly skilled and attentive care to meet children’s complex health and physical needs.
A report detailing their findings also said the environment enabled children and young people to thrive, preparing them for adulthood while having fun and building meaningful friendships.
Robin Adams, registered manager of Dragon’s Retreat, is delighted by the achievement.
“We remain committed to delivering the highest standard of care and support, ensuring that every young person at Dragon’s Retreat feels valued, empowered, and has the opportunity to thrive,” Robin said.
“We couldn’t be prouder of the positive impact we’re making on the lives of these children and their families.”
Following the inspection on January 20 and 21 the respite retreat, which looks after 57 children, achieved the same outcome as the previous visit when it was also rated ‘Outstanding’.
With six fully fitted bedrooms, Dragon’s Retreat is an independent short break unit providing overnight care for children and young people with disabilities up to the age of 18.
It provides a home-from-home experience, promoting independent living skills and ensuring the children or young person has fun whilst staying there.
We Are Beams, which is celebrating 30 years as a charity, also provides services and support for disabled children and their families across Kent.
