Public confidence in Christodoulides remains low, survey shows
A Noverna poll conducted for Politis on Monday reveals widespread scepticism towards President Nikos Christodoulides, with the public voicing strong doubts over government policies on water management, taxation, crime and migration.
Only 28 per cent of those questioned expressed overall approval of his performance, while 56 per cent disapproved. Some 1,020 people took part in the poll.
Water policy emerges as the most critical concern, with seven out of ten respondents questioning the adequacy of government action.
Thirty-four per cent said measures were probably insufficient and 35 per cent deemed them wholly inadequate.
Residents in Famagusta and Limassol express the greatest concern that Cyprus may face shortages this summer.
Economic policy and tax reform also fuel dissatisfaction, with only 38 per cent approve of government measures on economic issues, while 51 per cent disapprove.
Forty-four per cent believe the tax reform mainly benefits high-income earners, with 18 per cent seeing middle-class gains and just 8 per cent feeling it helps lower-income groups.
Crime and public safety elicit similarly critical responses, with just 37 per cent expressing approval of government action under Justice Minister Costas Fitiris, with 56 per cent expressing disapproval.
On the matter of immigration policy, 43 per cent approve while some 47 per cent reject government measures, with a significant proportion of those dissenting being young Elam voters.
Digital transformation of the state emerges as the government’s most positively received area, with 46 per cent expressing satisfaction against 38 per cent critical.
