Nebius stock spikes on colossal $27 billion AI infrastructure deal with Meta

The move: Nebius Group stock surged 15% on Monday, extending a week of upward momentum. Shares of the Dutch tech company are up 35% year to date.

Why: Nebius announced on Monday that it has signed a $27 billion deal to provide AI infrastructure to Meta Platforms over the next five years.

The deal will begin with Nebius providing Meta with $12 billion worth of dedicated capacity across multiple locations early in 2027. According to a statement released by Nebius, it will build large-scale AI clusters using Vera Rubin hardware made by Nvidia, to which Meta will have exclusive access. Meta also committed to buying up to $15 billion in additional compute capacity from Nebius over five years.

The AI cloud company also noted that it intends to sell any additional compute capacity to other customers, but if it cannot find buyers, Meta will purchase it.

"We are pleased to expand our significant partnership with Meta as part of securing more large, long-term capacity contracts to accelerate the build-out and growth of our core AI cloud business. We will continue to deliver," said Nebius CEO Arkady Volozh.

What it means: It's a landmark deal for Nebius and an endorsement from Meta that will help establish the company as a top infrastructure provider for the AI boom. It comes a few months after a $17 billion deal with Microsoft for AI compute.

Building out costly data centers can carry high risk for companies, but Meta has already promised to pay significantly for Nebius's AI compute capacity as well as any that goes unused and can't be sold.

This will likely make it easier for Nebius to secure future loans and investment funding as it maneuvers to scale its AI cloud compute offerings. With Big Tech leaders like Meta expected to spend over $600 billion on data centers and other AI infrastructure, Nebius is positioning itself as a major recipient of hyperscalers' capex spending.
