CNN Host PRESSES Pete Buttigieg: Why Did the Biden Administration Do NOTHING to Stop Iran? (VIDEO)
WATCH: CNN Host Asks: Why Did the Biden Administration Do Nothing to Stop Iran?
Former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg found himself in an uncomfortable position during a recent CNN interview when the host bluntly asked about a reality many Democrats have tried to ignore: the Biden administration did absolutely nothing to stop Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
The exchange came during a discussion about the escalating conflict with Iran and the military actions ordered by President Donald Trump.
During the interview, the host directly challenged Buttigieg with a simple question.
The Trump administration argues that the strike on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile infrastructure was necessary because the previous administration spent four years allowing Iran to expand its weapons programs and fund terrorism across the globe.
“Are they wrong?” the host asked.
That question highlights a fundamental problem for Democrats attempting to criticize Trump’s actions.
The record speaks for itself.
Over the past several years, Iran dramatically expanded uranium enrichment levels, increased ballistic missile testing, and continued funding terrorist proxy groups across the Middle East, including organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas.
At the same time, the United States repeatedly watched from the sidelines.
Instead of applying maximum pressure, the Biden administration pursued diplomatic strategies that only emboldened Tehran rather than stopping it.
Former President Biden was even considering bringing back the JCPOA, which President Obama first initiated, known as the Iran nuclear deal. The agreement was notorious for its lack of credibility: it gave Iran roughly $180 billion in unfrozen assets while doing little to prevent Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Now, as President Trump takes decisive military action against Iranian capabilities, many Democrats are attempting to portray the conflict as reckless or unnecessary.
Buttigieg followed that script during the interview, accusing Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth of poor leadership and claiming the war was launched without proper planning.
He also argued that Americans are now paying the economic price for the conflict through higher gas prices and economic uncertainty.
However, that argument conveniently ignores the policies that helped create the current situation.
Iran’s nuclear program did not accelerate overnight. The regime spent years expanding uranium enrichment and developing missile technology while funding terrorist groups across the region.
Some argue that those developments occurred precisely because Iran believed the United States lacked the willingness to confront it directly.
The Trump administration’s position is straightforward: allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons and long-range missile capabilities would pose an existential threat not only to Israel but also to American allies and global stability.
That is why the administration chose to act.
Supporters of the operation point out that failing to respond would have allowed Tehran to continue moving closer to a nuclear weapons capability while strengthening its network of proxy militias throughout the Middle East.
The debate also exposed another contradiction in Democrat messaging.
For years, many of the same political figures criticizing Trump’s use of force supported prolonged military interventions during earlier conflicts in the Middle East.
Now those same voices are suddenly portraying limited strikes against Iran’s military infrastructure as reckless escalation.
The reality is far simpler.
Iran’s regime has spent decades sponsoring terrorism, developing ballistic missiles, and pursuing nuclear capabilities that threaten global security. Ignoring those threats does not make them disappear.
The Trump administration’s approach reflects the belief that deterrence requires strength.
If the previous administration had taken meaningful steps to stop Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, the situation facing the United States today might look very different.
