Iran Says Israeli Bombing of Tehran Fuel Depots Violates International Law
Abbas Araghchi said Israeli strikes targeting fuel storage facilities in Tehran represent a serious violation of international law and could cause long-term environmental damage.
Writing on X on Monday, Araghchi described the attacks by Israel as a form of “environmental genocide.”
He warned that residents living near the targeted facilities could face serious and long-lasting health risks due to toxic pollution released into the surrounding environment.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, contamination of soil and underground water resources may cause environmental and public health consequences that could affect communities for generations.
Araghchi added that Israel should be held accountable under international law, arguing that attacks on civilian infrastructure and environmental resources constitute potential war crimes.
The comments come as the conflict between Iran and Israel continues to intensify, with both sides reporting new military strikes and retaliatory operations across the region.
Regional tensions have also drawn in the United States, which has supported Israeli operations and warned Iran against expanding the confrontation further.
Recent weeks have seen repeated attacks on energy infrastructure, military sites, and strategic facilities, raising concerns about wider environmental and humanitarian consequences.
Meanwhiel, continued strikes on energy infrastructure could worsen regional instability and increase the risk of broader escalation in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
