Saudi Crown Prince Pressed Trump to Keep Striking Iran, NYT Reports
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has urged Donald Trump to intensify strikes against Iran, according to a report by The New York Times.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been in regular contact with Donald Trump during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, reportedly urging stronger military action.
According to a report by The New York Times citing unnamed U.S. officials, the Saudi crown prince advised Trump to continue striking Iran forcefully amid the escalating war involving Israel and the United States.
The report said the message echoed advice previously given by Saudi Arabia’s late king, King Abdullah, who had urged Washington to “cut off the head of the snake.”
That phrase appeared in diplomatic cables released in 2010 by WikiLeaks, which revealed that several Gulf leaders had encouraged the United States to take stronger action against Iran’s nuclear program.
The report comes as the conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States continues to intensify, with both sides reporting strikes on military and strategic targets across the region.
In response to earlier attacks by the United States and Israel, Iran has reportedly launched missile and drone strikes against several targets in the region, including an attack near the U.S. embassy area in Riyadh.
However, officials in Saudi Arabia have not publicly commented on the reported contacts or the alleged request for stronger military action.
Meanwhile, Gulf states have long viewed Iran’s regional influence and nuclear ambitions as major security concerns, shaping their diplomatic and security relations with Washington.
The latest report highlights the complex regional dynamics surrounding the ongoing conflict and the growing involvement of regional powers in shaping its direction.
