Cabinet to convene over FMD, price increases
The response to the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, as well as price increases due to hostilities in the Middle East, will be at the centre of a cabinet meeting on Monday afternoon.
“In collaboration with all organised groups, with all those affected, we will do everything possible to regenerate and further strengthen livestock farming in our country,” President Nikos Christodoulides told a meeting in Pachna on Saturday.
He said that ministers were to decide on a dedicated plan to support livestock farming at their meeting on Monday, stressing that “these are difficult times and bold decisions are needed.”
The President emphasised the government’s zero tolerance policy for those aiming to profit from the current price increases, with the matter being discussed as part of the agenda on Monday.
“We will not accept any phenomena of profiteering or anyone seeking to exploit this situation, burdening consumers,” he said.
Christodoulides highlighted the government’s proactive measures, including a zero-rating of VAT and electricity subsidies.
