Paul Thomas Anderson's Oscars Message To His Kids With Maya Rudolph Hits Home For Parents Of Teens
Paul Thomas Anderson’s first Oscar win is even sweeter now that we know he made One Battle After Another for his four kids with wife Maya Rudolph.
The famed director won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, and his speech will certainly hit home for anyone raising future adults in this world.
“I wrote this movie for my kids, to say sorry for the housekeeping mess that we left in this world we’re handing off to them,” Anderson said. “But also with the encouragement that they will be the generation that they will hopefully be the generation that brings us some common sense and decency.”
Anderson went on to mention his kids by name: Pearl, Lucille, Jack and Minnie. The Magnolia director shares Pearl, 20, Lucille, 16, Jack, 14, Minnie, 12, with Rudolph. Anderson and Rudolph have been together since 2001.
Anderson is also nominated for Best Director and Best Picture as a producer on the film.
The film received nine other Oscar nominations: Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn, Best Supporting Actress for Teyana Taylor, Best Cinematography for Michael Bauman, Best Film Editing for Andy Jurgensen, Best Original Score for Jonny Greenwood, Best Production Design by Anthony Carlino and Florencia Martin, and Best Sound for Jose Antonio Garcia, Christopher Scarabosio, and Tony Villaflor.
It also won the inaugural award for Best Casting, which went to Cassandra Kulukundis.
