Michael B. Jordan Wins Best Actor for 'Sinners' at Oscars 2026, Thanks All 6 Previous Black Winners for Lead Acting
Michael B. Jordan is officially an Oscar winner!
The 39-year-old actor won the award for Best Actor at the 2026 Academy Awards on Sunday (March 15) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Michael won for his dual roles as Elijah “Smoke” Moore and Elias “Stack” Moore in the movie Sinners, which has won three other awards this evening as well.
Also nominated in the category were Marty Supreme‘s Timothee Chalamet, One Battle After Another‘s Leonardo DiCaprio, Blue Moon‘s Ethan Hawke, and The Secret Agent‘s Wagner Moura.
In his speech, Michael thanked all of the six other Black actors who have won in the leading category before him.

“I stand here because of the people that came before me. Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith. And to be amongst those giants, amongst those greats, amongst my ancestors… thank you,” he said.
Michael also noted his family and ancestors.
“I know you guys want me to do well and I wanna do that cause you guys bet on me. Thank you for keeping betting on me and I’m gonna keep stepping up,” he said.
