Two winners were revealed in the Best Live Action Short Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards on Sunday (March 15) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Ties have only happened 6 other times in Oscar history, though the Academy has stated that one of those ties wasn’t actually a “true tie.”

In 2026, the short films The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva were both winners. To be considered a tie, the winners must receive the exact same amount of votes and have the majority of votes.

1931/32 – 5th Academy Awards
Best Actor – Fredric March in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Wallace Beery in The Champ
OSCARS NOTE: Not a true tie, as Fredric March had one more vote than Wallace Beery, but rules at the time stated that if an achievement came within three votes of the winner, that achievement would also receive the award. The rules have since been changed, and only an exact match in totals would qualify as a tie.
