Man Utd could now sign 26yo Brazilian star for £26m, huge bargain deal for Red Devils

Manchester United have the opportunity to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson for a knockdown price during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have held a long-term interest in the Brazil international, and they were first linked with the player during the summer of 2024.

Back then, United sought him as a potential midfield signing but could not reach an agreement with Atalanta. They ended up recruiting Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain instead.

Ugarte has failed to meet expectations in his two seasons at the club, and there is a high possibility that he could depart alongside Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of June.

This could mean United may need to sign two midfielders for next season. The club have the chance to strike a bargain deal to land Ederson from Atalanta in the next transfer window.

Tuttomercatoweb claim the former Salernitana man was valued at £52 million or more last summer, but could be available for half the price (£26m) when the current campaign ends.

United have reportedly joined the race to secure his signature.

Ederson will enter the final year of his contract at the Bergamo outfit this summer. With Atalanta no longer in a strong position to negotiate, they could open the door for a cut-price transfer.

Ederson at £26m would be a huge coup for United

Ederson has been one of the best-performing midfielders in the Italian top-flight. Atalanta had a rough start to the season, but are currently in the top seven of Serie A after a sublime turnaround.

The 26-year-old has played a big part in the upturn in league form. He has been rock-solid in the heart of the midfield, completing 89 percent of his passes.

The Brazilian has also won 4.5 duels per game alongside 4.5 recoveries and two tackles. He has lost possession just eight times per league appearance.

Ederson’s main strengths are his positioning, long balls and tireless work rate. He has the traits to become a key player for the Red Devils in the coming seasons.

With the need to replace Casemiro and potentially Ugarte, Ederson would be a huge bargain signing, particularly if he can be purchased for around £26m.

Atalanta are not an easy club to negotiate with, and we believe the price could be slightly higher.

Nevertheless, United should fancy their prospects of landing him, given they have a good working relationship with the Serie A outfit over recent years.

The Red Devils have previously recruited Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo from Atalanta, and Ederson could follow a similar path at the end of the season.
