Ryan Coogler is expected to win at least one Oscar tonight and his wife could potentially be named a winner as well!

The 39-year-old filmmaker is nominated for three awards tonight – Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay, all for his work on the movie Sinners.

Ryan now has five Oscar nominations to his name and it’s very likely he brings home at least one award this year, with the potential for more.

Ryan is married to movie producer Zinzi Coogler (née Evans), and she’s also nominated for Best Picture tonight for her work as a producer on the movie Sinners.

Ryan and Zinzi have been together since they met in high school and they got married in 2016. The couple share three children together.

“Zinzi had the most incredible taste,” Ryan told Marie Claire in 2026. “She would always break down why certain stories worked for her, and she could always articulate what was holding her back when something didn’t. I was in awe of her capacity for understanding the story and communicating ways it could improve since then.”

Zinzi herself told the mag about being the only filmmakers in their family. She said, “We don’t have filmmakers in our family, so we have each other to turn to and to lean on, and we’ve become each other’s sounding board and safety net…I think we’ve found a rhythm and a way to do it together in a way that brings us joy.”
