Best Comedy Series and Satire Shows To Stream on Amazon Prime Video

Fleabag

Prime Video

1. Fleabag

Phoebe Waller-Bridge broke the mold with this dark comedy about a witty, self-destructive young woman (“Fleabag”) living in London and navigating a loss that’s shrouded in mystery. With frequent fourth-wall breaks and biting humor, Fleabag confides directly in the audience, offering a painfully hilarious glimpse into her private thoughts. It’s hard to believe the show was only two seasons long — but at least that was enough time to introduce the world to Hot Priest (played by Andrew Scott).

Overcompensating

Prime Video

2. Overcompensating

Known online as Benny Drama, Benito Skinner broke out on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. But Overcompensating, which he created and stars in, proves he was destined for television.

The series follows Benny Scanlon, a handsome, valedictorian football player starting his freshman year at Yates University. He’s secretly gay and, desperate to be seen as a straight “alpha,” goes to comedic extremes to fit in. If you love quick wit and early 2000s nostalgia, you’ll be especially delighted by this impressive debut.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Prime Video

3. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Amy Sherman‑Palladino (Gilmore Girls, Bunheads) did it again with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a vibrant period comedy set in the late-’50s and following an Upper West Side housewife (Rachel Brosnahan) who discovers a knack for standup after her husband leaves her. As with Sherman-Palladino’s previous work, the dialogue is fast-paced and sharp, the characters are opinionated and lively and the setting is specific and dazzling. Alex Borstein as Midge Maisel’s non-nonsense manager, Susie, is an absolute treat.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Prime Video

4. Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Created by Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a spy dramedy loosely inspired by the 2005 film. Glover and Maya Erskine play the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie roles, respectively, only unlike in the movie, they aren’t a married couple hiding the fact that they’re both spies—they’re a pretend married couple recruited to act as spies.

As they navigate high-stakes espionage, their fake union begins to blur into a genuine emotional connection. The show is slick and funny, and it works as well as it does because Glover and Erskine have amazing chemistry.

Upload

Prime Video

5. Upload

Set in 2033, Upload imagines a world where dying people can have their consciousness “uploaded” into digital afterlives—like the luxury resort Lakeview—paid for by loved ones on a monthly subscription plan. After a fatal car crash, programmer Nathan Brown (Robbie Amell) ends up in Lakeview, only he’s unhappily under the control of his wealthy, living girlfriend (Allegra Edwards).

Meanwhile, he starts falling for his assigned “angel,” Nora (Andy Allo), a real-world customer-service rep who becomes both confidante and partner in unraveling the mystery behind his accident. Created by Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation), Upload is clever, surprising and a good mix of heartfelt and humorous.

Deadloch

Prime Video

6. Deadloch

This razor-sharp Australian black comedy kicks off with a man’s body washing ashore in the fictional Tasmanian town of Deadloch during its annual Winter Festival. Two clashing detectives—local Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and brash Darwin transplant Detective Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami)—are forced to team up and unravel a dark mystery hiding beneath quirky small-town life. Oddball locals and indigenous tensions are at the heart of the show’s humor.

The Outlaws

Prime Video

7. The Outlaws

The Outlawsis a British crime-comedy thriller (co-created by Stephen Merchant and Elgin James) that follows seven mismatched offenders—from shoplifters to con artists—who are sentenced to community service in Bristol, England. As they refurbish a crumbling community center, they stumble upon a hidden bag of money that pulls them into a dangerous underworld of crime and deception. The writing is sharp, the plot is twisty and the characters (a right-wing businessman, a social media influencer) are anything but stereotypes.

Mozart in the Jungle

Prime Video

8. Mozart in the Jungle

A workplace comedy set behind the scenes at the New York Symphony, Mozart in the Jungle follows showy young maestro Rodrigo de Souza (Gael García Bernal) as he takes over the orchestra, disrupting it with his wild energy and unconventional methods. Inspired by Blair Tindall’s memoir, the series gives a humorous (and occasionally disturbing) look at the cutthroat world of classical music.

Clean Slate

Prime Video

9. Clean Slate

Clean Slate is a feel-good family sitcom executive-produced by the late Norman Lear and co-created by Laverne Cox, George Wallace and Dan Ewen. Cox stars as Desiree Slate, a successful trans art dealer from New York who returns to her childhood home in Alabama after 23 years away, and Wallace plays her father, Harry, owner of a local car wash who’s instantly welcoming if occasionally forgetful of pronouns. As her bond with her father evolves, Desiree reconnects with her old community, including her childhood BFF and church choir.

Catastrophe

Prime Video

10. Catastrophe

Few series have captured the mundanity of married life and parenthood as smartly and hilariously as Catastrophe, a British show created by and starring Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney. The two play a couple who got together by accident after a fling ended in a surprise pregnancy. From this chaotic start, Rob and Sharon (also their characters’ names on the show) establish a relationship, get married and raise a family.

The series isn't a sitcom with wacky hijinks, but a brutally honest portrayal of modern adult life. The humor is dry, sarcastic and often dark—and it’ll have you laughing out loud.

The Boys

Prime Video

11. The Boys

A dark, violent and satirical superhero TV series based on the comic book by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys imagines a world where superheroes exist — but instead of being good guys, they're corrupt, egotistical corporate tools who abuse their powers. Thankfully, they don't go unchecked. The Boys, a group of vigilantes led by the ruthless Billy Butcher, are determined to expose and destroy the Supes, especially their most powerful and terrifying member, Homelander, a Superman-esque "patriot" who’s, in fact, a total sociopath.
