More storms expected Sunday in Chicago, followed by snow
After a week of wild swings in the weather, another round of storms, strong winds and snow are forecast to hit the Chicago area Sunday and Monday.
Showers and thunderstorms, potentially severe, are expected Sunday afternoon before the rain turns to sleet overnight, according to the National Weather Service.
The precipitation is forecast to turn to snow early Monday, along with wind gusts of up to 45 mph. One to two inches of snow is possible, the weather service said.
Snowfall and strong winds may hang around throughout Monday before the skies clear Tuesday, though temperatures will remain in the 20s. No more rain or snow is expected after then, while temperatures will warm up into the 40s and 50s toward the end of the week, according to the weather service.
It all follows a roller coaster-like week of weather in the Chicago area.
Friday brought damaging wind gusts near 60 mph, which prompted a brief ground stop at O’Hare Airport. Earlier in the week, severe storms spawned a tornado in Kankakee County and giant hailstones across the Chicago area. That followed a record-high 73 degrees for March 9 in Chicago.
