FGRF Donates Food Aid to 1,500 Families in Chiradzulu
Nearly 1,500 families in Chiradzulu Midima Constituency have received food assistance from the Faizan Global Relief Foundation (FGRF) to help ease hunger affecting vulnerable households in the area.
The donation comes at a time when the constituency is experiencing significant food shortages, with about 40 percent of households reportedly struggling with hunger.
Member of Parliament for the constituency, Jean Sendeza Mathanga, who is also Malawi’s Minister of Energy and Mining, thanked the organisation for the timely intervention.
Mathanga said many households in the constituency do not have enough food to sustain them until the next planting season.
“Most households in this constituency do not have enough food to take them through to the next planting season.
I should say about 40 percent of the constituents have been affected by hunger. When I reached out to the foundation, they were very willing to come in and assist us,” she said.
She also appealed to other organisations and individuals of goodwill to support communities in the constituency that are still in urgent need of assistance.
Director of Communications for Faizan Global Relief Foundation, Ibrahim Omar Mataya, said the donation is part of the organisation’s Ramadan outreach programme aimed at assisting vulnerable communities during the ongoing national food crisis.
“We as FGRF do not only focus on donations or handouts. Our aim is also to empower communities so that people can eventually sustain themselves,” said Mataya.
Apart from distributing food packs, the organisation also donated 30 medical crutches to people with physical disabilities, reflecting its broader commitment to supporting vulnerable groups.
Mataya said through the Ramadan outreach programme alone, the foundation has already assisted more than 21,000 people across different communities in the country.
One of the beneficiaries, Simion Muhasuwa, described the support as timely, saying many families in the area are struggling to find enough food.
