Man City interested in signing Tottenham star who has just 8 Premier League starts this season
Manchester City are reportedly discussing a possible move for a Tottenham defender as uncertainty grows around a potential relegation.
Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they battle relegation this season after a dismal last eight months in the Premier League.
You would have to go back 49 years for the last time Spurs lost their top-flight status and were relegated to the second division.
This season, though, it remains a painful reality and one that could hurt the club in more ways than one. A fair few Tottenham players have been linked with moves away from north London as relegation looms large.
Tottenham defender Destiny Udogie linked with Manchester City move
Football Insider is now reporting that Destiny Udogie is another Spurs man considering his future in north London.
It is claimed that Manchester City have rekindled their interest in Udogie, and are weighing up their options should Tottenham go down this season.
This is not the first time Man City have been linked with a move for Udogie. Last year, ahead of the summer window, a similar report emerged, but no deal materialised.
Guardiola’s side have since signed Ait Nouri from Wolves, but it is claimed they are still in the market for another full-back.
Commenting on the situation, scout Mick Brown said: “Destiny Udogie has shown he’s a top Premier League player,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He’s long been linked with Man City, and this is what will be happening now.
“Man City are looking for a new left-back, so they will be sitting down and assessing, who are the best left-backs in the Premier League and in Europe?
“It’s not just thinking who might be available, they will have done their homework on a number of options, and I expect Udogie will be among those.
“So Man City are holding conversations about Udogie, what will he cost, what are his wages likely to be, how does he fit into our team?
“Then, if Tottenham get relegated or he wants to leave because of how the season has gone, they’ll know all about him and be ready to make a move – or not, if that’s what they decide.”
Spurs defenders attracting interest amid Tottenham uncertainty
Udogie is not the only Tottenham full-back to have been linked with a move away from north London.
We have since reported that his team-mate on the opposite flank, Pedro Porro has also been linked with a move away from Tottenham.
Interest in Porro is coming from Spain, where Real Madrid are said to be keen on securing his services, and Spurs could receive a decent amount should he depart.
