Kabul Claims 14 Pakistani Soldiers Killed in Border Attacks
The Taliban’s Defense Ministry claims its forces killed 14 Pakistani soldiers during cross-border attacks following recent Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan.
In a statement released Saturday, the ministry said the attacks targeted Pakistani border positions near Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nangarhar provinces, areas that have recently witnessed heightened tensions.
According to Taliban officials, 11 Pakistani soldiers were also wounded during the clashes and one Pakistani military outpost was captured during the operation.
Pakistani authorities have acknowledged drone attacks carried out by Taliban forces inside parts of Pakistan but have not confirmed the casualty figures reported by the Taliban.
Asif Ali Zardari condemned the drone attacks and described them as a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
The clashes followed Pakistani airstrikes early Friday on targets in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktika and Paktia provinces in Afghanistan, which Taliban officials say killed several civilians.
Tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban administration have sharply escalated in recent weeks, with both sides accusing each other of supporting militant activity across the border.
The latest exchanges highlight the fragile security situation along the Afghanistan-Pakistan frontier, where continued military confrontations risk further destabilizing the region.
