Defence Minister Feston Kaupa Hails Malawi–Japan Relations
Minister of Defence Feston Kaupa has commended the long-standing bilateral relationship between Malawi and Japan, describing it as a key partnership that has contributed significantly to the country’s socio-economic development since independence in 1964.
Kaupa made the remarks at Capital Hill in Lilongwe when he hosted the newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Naito Yasushi , who paid a courtesy call on him.
The minister said the Government of Japan has remained a reliable development partner to Malawi through its continued support in various sectors.
He noted that Japan has assisted the country in several key development initiatives, including the construction of power stations, support towards the construction of the Lilongwe Bridge along the M1 Road, and infrastructure development at Domasi College of Education in Zomba.
Kaupa further said Malawi remains ready to deepen cooperation with Japan in areas such as defence collaboration, cultural exchange programmes and other sectors of mutual interest.
In his remarks, Ambassador Yasushi reaffirmed the Japanese Government’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.
