Limassol container terminal operator partners with science research centre
Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol (ECTL) and the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at strengthening collaboration and developing joint initiatives.
According to an announcement released on Friday, the agreement was signed as part of the EXCELSIOR Space Industry Day event, organised by the Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence and the EXCELSIOR Teaming Project.
The event sought to strengthen cooperation between the centre and Cyprus’ space and business ecosystem, while promoting the exchange of knowledge and identifying opportunities for joint initiatives in earth observation, space technologies and other areas of mutual interest.
The memorandum establishes a five-year framework for cooperation between the two organisations.
Under the agreement, the partners will work together on joint research and development initiatives, including the preparation of studies and research aimed at technological upgrading and environmental protection.
The cooperation will also include the implementation of social contribution initiatives, reflecting the corporate social responsibility activities of both organisations.
In addition, the agreement foresees collaboration on new research programmes, knowledge transfer and staff training, strengthening links between industry and scientific research.
The partnership aims to create opportunities for joint projects and innovation-driven initiatives that support the development of technology and entrepreneurship in Cyprus.
The memorandum was signed during the event by representatives of both organisations.
Representing Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, operations director Alexandros Dimitriadis presented the company’s activities and the significant investments carried out in recent years at the Limassol container terminal.
He highlighted that the investments have focused on infrastructure, equipment and technological upgrades, aimed at strengthening the efficiency and capabilities of the terminal.
During the signing ceremony, Dimitriadis emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance science and innovation.
“Eurogate CTL expresses its willingness and readiness to contribute to initiatives that help and strengthen the sectors of research, science and technology and, by extension, entrepreneurship,” said Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol operations director Alexandros Dimitriadis.
The cooperation is expected to promote closer ties between the maritime logistics sector and the research community, creating new opportunities for innovation and applied research.
The Eratosthenes Centre of Excellence, based at the Cyprus University of Technology, focuses on research in areas such as earth observation, space technologies and environmental monitoring.
The collaboration with Eurogate is intended to expand the application of advanced technologies in maritime and logistics environments, including areas related to environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.
Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Ltd operates the container terminal at the port of Limassol, one of Cyprus’ most important logistics hubs.
The company currently employs approximately 200 people in Cyprus, supporting the operation and development of the port’s container handling infrastructure.
Through this new partnership, both organisations aim to combine industrial expertise and scientific research capabilities in order to advance innovation and support the development of Cyprus’ technology and research ecosystem.
