Karzai Condemns Pakistan Airstrikes in Afghanistan, Urges End to Hostilities

Former Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai has condemned Pakistan’s recent airstrikes in several Afghanistan provinces, urging Islamabad to end hostilities and respect principles of good neighborly relations.

Karzai said in a statement on X on Friday that the attacks on Kabul, Kandahar, Paktika and Paktia provinces represent a serious violation of international law and Afghanistan’s sovereignty. He called on Pakistan to abandon hostile actions and resolve disputes through dialogue.

The Taliban earlier reported a fresh wave of Pakistani airstrikes early Friday, saying the attacks targeted several areas across Afghanistan. According to Taliban officials, at least four civilians, including women and children, were killed in the strikes in Kabul.

Zabihullah Mujahid said Pakistani aircraft also targeted a fuel storage facility belonging to a private airline Kam Air in Kandahar province, though the full extent of damage was not immediately clear.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan documented at least four civilian deaths and 14 injuries, including women and children, following airstrikes in Kabul’s Pul-e-Charkhi area overnight.

The UN mission called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent further loss of civilian life. It warned that the continued escalation of cross-border violence could place more Afghan civilians at risk.

Tensions between Pakistan and Taliban authorities have escalated in recent weeks amid accusations from Islamabad that militant groups are operating from Afghanistan territory and carrying out attacks inside Pakistan.

According to the United Nations, clashes and airstrikes linked to the tensions have continued for more than two weeks and have already resulted in dozens of civilian casualties, including many children.

The latest developments highlight growing regional tensions and underline the urgent need for diplomatic engagement to prevent further violence and protect civilians across Afghanistan.
