Kabul Claims Drone Attacks on Pakistani Military Sites in Response to Airstrikes
The Taliban’s Defense Ministry says it carried out drone strikes on Pakistani military positions in response to recent airstrikes inside Afghanistan. The ministry claimed the operation targeted military facilities in the Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
According to the Taliban Defense Ministry, a drone strike hit a military fort and a war command center in Kohat. The ministry released video footage on Friday that it said showed a drone flying toward the targeted locations.
In a statement, the Taliban said the strikes destroyed military facilities, command centers, depots and barracks used by Pakistani forces. The ministry claimed the attack caused significant casualties and material losses, although the figures were not independently verified.
Pakistani military authorities have not yet commented on the Taliban’s claims regarding the reported drone strike on military sites in Kohat.
Earlier on Friday, Pakistani aircraft reportedly carried out airstrikes in several Afghanistan provinces, including Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia and Paktika, according to statements from Taliban officials.
The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan said it documented at least four civilian deaths and 14 injuries, including women and children, after overnight airstrikes in the Pul-e-Charkhi area of Kabul.
The exchange of attacks underscores rising tensions between Pakistan and Taliban authorities in Afghanistan, raising concerns about further escalation and the growing risk to civilians in the region.
