Morning Briefing: Clay Holmes to Return to Mets From WBC
Good morning, Mets fans.
The Mets are about to get one of their pitchers back early from international duty.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that Clay Holmes will return from the World Baseball Classic and pitch in a Grapefruit League game Friday. The Mets wanted Holmes back because Team USA could not guarantee the workload he needed to properly build up for the regular season.

The Mets fell to the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday with mixed results. Sean Manaea struggled in his second start of the spring, allowing three runs over 2 2/3 innings, while Jorge Polanco provided the Mets’ lone run with a solo homer. Luis Robert Jr. also made his Mets debut with a hard-hit single, and Tobias Myers impressed again with three scoreless innings as New York’s pitching staff showed flashes despite the 3-1 loss. The Mets are making a change to their plans for Carlos Beltrán. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets had originally planned to induct Beltrán into the team’s Hall of Fame alongside Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine on May 30. Instead, the team will hold a separate ceremony later this season to retire Beltrán’s No. 15.
Anthony DiComo of MLB.com shared that Francisco Lindor is close to taking full batting practice on the field. In addition to continuing defensive work in minor league games, Lindor recently took a batting practice session inside the cage using normal two-handed swings. He remains on schedule to be ready for Opening Day.
