Excited for Netflix’s Hurricane-Meets-Shark Attack Movie? Stream This Killer Gator Flick Right Now
Even a bad shark attack movie can be pretty entertaining. Although no killer shark movie has come close to matching Jaws, there's always something new lurking in the cinematic waters. Next month, Netflix will debut a new film about deadly fins, Thrash. The first trailer for the Phoebe Dynevor-led flick came out today, a little less than a month ahead of the April 10 streaming release, and it promises lots of mayhem as sharks invade a town that's been flooded due to a hurricane.
However, if you can't wait a month to watch Thrash, the good news is that there already is a really good creature feature about killer animals chomping on people during a hurricane—and it's streaming for free. It's alligators instead of great whites, but Crawl will certainly satisfy your appetite ahead of the Thrash release.
Originally intended for a theatrical premiere before Sony shifted the release to Netflix, Thrash stars Dynevor (Bridgerton) as a pregnant woman in a coastal town that's about to get wallopped by a Category 5 storm. Making matters worse is that a bunch of sharks have come in with the tide. Whitney Peak (HBO's Gossip Girl revival) and Djimon Hounsou (Gladiator) co-star in the movie, which was written and directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Violent Night).
The premise sounds a little bit like Sharknado but with a hurricane instead of a tornado and less of a joke. Even more than that, though, it sounds like the 2019 movie Crawl, which rules.
Crawl, Which Is Streaming for Free, Has Killer Alligators Attacking a Flooded Florida House
Crawl, from Piranha 3D director Alexandre Aja, came out back in the summer of 2019. Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) stars as a collegiate swimmer who returns home to visit her estranged father (Saving Private Ryan's Barry Pepper) because a hurricane is bearing down on his Florida home. When she arrives, she finds that her father is injured and trapped inside the house's rapidly flooding crawlspace—and there's a mean hungry gator down there with them. More alligators are swimming in the rising waters outside, ready to chomp down on anybody stuck in the storm.
The rest of the film is a battle against the elements and the reptiles, and it's a killer creature feature for fans of the animal attack genre. If you watched the trailer for Thrash and liked what you saw, you owe it to yourself to check out Crawl first.
Crawl is available to stream for free with ads on Pluto. It's also available to stream without interruption for Paramount+ subscribers. Thrash will be streaming on Netflix on April 10.
