'Mormon Wives' Star Mikayla Matthews Shares Update About Split From Husband Jace Terry
Mikayla Matthews shared whether she’s back with husband Jace Terry after the couple revealed their separation in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season four.
During the fourth season of the show, which aired on March 12, Mikayla and Jace revealed that they were taking time away from their marriage amid Mikayla’s ongoing struggles with intimacy, which was explored in earlier seasons and linked to her experience of being sexually abused during her childhood.
In an interview with People, Mikayla confirmed that she and Jace are still separated. “It’s still new to me, and it’s new to him, and we’re just navigating it the best way that we can,” Mikayla explained of their current status. “Unfortunately, I think it’s just something that’s going to take a lot more time. I feel like that’s all I can say on it now.”
Mikayla and Jace are parents to four children, including a baby girl born in July. While Jace is one of the quieter members of DadTok and less likely to appear on camera than his social media star wife, we have learned a little bit about their relationship over the years.
All About Mikayla Matthews’ Estranged Husband, Jace
Mikayla and Jace started dating in 2016 after meeting through her sister, she revealed in a February 2022 TikTok. They married in March 2018 after welcoming their son, Beckham, the previous July. They had their wedding ceremony in Hawaii in 2020.
Mikayla previously opened up about their relationship in an August 2021 TikTok, revealing that she found out she was pregnant with her son at age 16 after “less than a month” of knowing Jace. “I decided to keep the baby, told him and he was 110% supportive and we went from there,” she explained in the TikTok.
Mikayla and Jace faced backlash over their relationship when she revealed their 5-year age gap in an October 2022 TikTok. Fans were quick to do the math and realized Jace was 21 when Mikayla got pregnant at 16 years old.
Mikayla & Jace Share 4 Kids
Mikayla and Jace are parents to 8-year-old son Beckham, and daughters Haven, 6, and Tommie, 4, and Lottie, who was born in July 2025.
“It was definitely a surprise! We were not planning or trying,” Mikayla said when she announced her fourth pregnancy to People in February 2025, explaining that she’s been focused on healing her chronic eczema. “Then it set in and we got really excited. We’re definitely excited, nervous about my health and possibly passing anything on, but excited.”
Jace Is a Stay-At-Home Dad
Jace confirmed in the July 1 reunion episode of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives season two that he is a stay-at-home dad to his and Mikayla’s kids after losing his job because of his wife’s reality show. He revealed that he’s happy being at home with the kids and supporting his wife.
Mikayla first alluded to Jace losing his job after season one of the show aired. Per his LinkedIn, Jace was a project manager for Waffle Love, a food establishment in Utah, until August 2024.
Mikayla Praised Jace For Being ‘Supportive’
Mikayla has consistently gushed about her marriage to Jace, telling SheKnows in 2024, “My husband’s always supportive of what I’m doing.” She added, “He just trusts me to not cross boundaries and to have respect for our relationship, but he wants me to be my own person and do my own things.”
They Opened Up About Intimacy Issues on Mormon Wives
After Mikayla opened up about being sexually abused as a child, the couple discussed how their sex life had suffered as a result of her trauma.
“I feel a lot of pressure and guilt around my marriage and our sex life right now. I feel like I have a lot of broken pieces that I haven’t fixed yet,” Mikayla said in the show. “Even though I know that it comes from the abuse and the way I was raised, I think growing up in the church, I’m always trying to chase this idea of being a perfect wife or being perfect for him. It just never feels attainable.”
Mikayla & Jace Separated in 2025
As they revealed during season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Mikayla and Jace separated while filming the show in late 2025. “We both agreed to do a separation,” Mikayla confirmed after the couple struggled to repair intimacy issues while the mom of four was also navigating her chronic illness.
“I think it’s hard anytime you bring up the stuff with the sex and the intimacy. I feel it’s hard on me because again, my nervous system is already in fight or flight, and I’m already maxed out. My bucket is full,” Mikayla explains to Jace in a scene that shows her packing a bag to temporarily move out.
“I don’t think it’s like with the intention of being separated forever,” she continued. “I think we’re obviously still going to see each other every single day. I’m not trying to go even a day away from the kids anyway.”
Mikayla added in a confessional that she doesn’t want to end her marriage, but knows it will take time to heal.
“There’s part of me that is definitely scared to lose him because I feel like our marriage is so good outside of the sexual intimacy part of it, which is ironic because that’s his No. 1 need and that’s my No. 1 wound,” she said.
