NC State head coach Will Wade weighs in on LSU rumors
By JAMES MADDEN
NC State head coach Will Wade’s name has begun to get thrown around as a potential candidate for the LSU head coaching job, if the Tigers decide to part ways with current head coach Matt McMahon. Wade, in his first season at NC State, previously spent five seasons at LSU before being fired for recruiting violations in March 2022.
During his tenure at LSU, Wade made three NCAA tournaments in four full seasons, including a Sweet Sixteen. He was asked about the ongoing rumors following NC State’s loss to Virginia in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
“Is the job open at LSU? No. Listen, let me be very clear: I’m excited at NC State,” Wade told reporters Thursday. “I was hired at NC State to do a job. This wasn’t going to take one year. I’ve already met with our administration about next year and some of the changes that we need to make and some of the things that we need to do to put this program where it deserves long-term.”
Wade was hired by NC State last March after reaching two consecutive NCAA Tournaments at McNeese, including defeating Clemson in the first round in 2025.
The Wolfpack are projected to make the field, despite losing on Thursday, with ESPN’s Joe Lunardi projecting Wade’s team as a No. 10 seed in the tournament.
