TRANSFER NEWS

LUCAS MELDRUM LEAVES DUOTONE

UK rider, Lucas Meldrum made the surprise announcement last week that he was parting ways with Duotone after spending thirteen years with the brand.

Apparently, his new sponsor’s sails are arriving this week, but he is keeping the details under wraps for now.

Lucas commented on Instagram: “End of an era! A sad moment but it’s finally time to say goodbye after an amazing 13 years with Duotone. Massive thank you to Nik Baker and Harvey Dawkins for all the support, from the very beginning of my wave sailing journey all the way to British Champion.

It was a hard decision to leave my first and only sponsor, it’s been a big part of my windsurfing life, but I felt that chapter was coming to an end and it was the right time to make a change. For the full lowdown you can check the video on my YouTube.

Wishing all the Duotone team and riders the very best and hope to catch you on the water soon!”

ADAM WARCHOL GOYA TO PATRIK

Polish big wave charger Adam Warchol also announced last week that he was parting ways with Goya and has now joined the growing Patrik team.

Adam was very thankful for the support he received over the years: “Thank you Goya Windsurfing, Quatro1994, Lalo Goya, Francisco Goya and everyone involved for all these years, supporting me from the very beginning of my windsurfing journey and taking me to the stage I’m currently at today. Definitely I wouldn’t be where I’m today without your help and guidance. Thank you for the great times, great people and wonderful experiences.

Now it’s time for me to take a new path, push new limits and go all in with my future!”

MIKE FRIEDL GOYA TO DUOTONE

Mike Friedl is one of the outstanding talents emerging from the Canary Islands and recently announced that he will also be switching teams.

The young wave sailor has parted ways with Goya and will be joining the Duotone wave team for the upcoming season.

Mike commented “I am really motivated for this season and excited for all the new projects I have on my mind. Thanks to the whole team for your trust and your support!”

JULES DENEL: GAASTRA / TABOU TO GOYA

French rider Jules Denel revealed on Instagram that he is switching from Tabou and GA Sails to Goya Windsurfing.

“I am proud to announce that I am now part of Goya Windsurfing! A brand based on passion, performance and pure surfing. Let’s achieve even more together!”

Denel finished 21st in the 2025 rankings, with his best result being 13th place in Sylt. He also runs his own surf and windsurf school in his hometown of Wissant in northern France.

JIMMY THIEME PATRIK TO FMX

Young French talent Jimmy Thieme has announced that he will be switching from Patrik to FMX Boards as he continues to focus on Slalom X racing in the new season. His father, Eric, has also made the move to FMX.

Jimmy wrote about his switch:

“A new chapter begins, characterised by passion, commitment and the pursuit of progress on the water. I am proud to join the FMX team and grateful for the trust placed in me…I am ready to work hard, push my limits and experience this journey together. A big thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Let’s make it a great season!”

FMX were also delighted to have Jimmy on the team…”He has worked his way up the rankings and made great progress in recent years. Last season, he finished 10th in the overall PWA fin ranking. We are excited to bring in a strong talent in fin slalom who is just reaching his prime at the age of 26 and are looking forward to seeing what Jimmy will do this year.”

AMADO VRIESWIJK POINT 7 TO NORTH

We had a feeling Amado would move to North once he announced his departure from Point 7 a few weeks ago. It seems like North are making a big push in the 2026 season and Amado will join Pierre Mortefon on the race team. Amado was short and sweet when he made his announcement: “PROUD to announce that I’m joining the North Windsurfing Team !! The mission is on. Go beyond!!”

INJURY UPDATES

PHIL HORROCKS: BROKEN FOOT

Hot off the press British Champion Phil Horrocks has broken his foot by the looks of the X-ray in his latest social media update. We wish Phil a speedy recovery and hope he can get back on the water as soon as possible.

MIGUEL CHAPUIS: LISFRANC DISLOCATION

It has been an unfortunate start to the 2026 season for rising star Miguel Chapuis, who suffered a nasty crash recently in Tarifa. An MRI confirmed he had sustained a partial Lisfranc dislocation in his foot.

Miguel has already undergone surgery but will unfortunately miss the Aloha Classic. The good news is that he hopes to be back on the water in time for the summer events in the Canary Islands.

Here is his positive statement from social media:

“A few weeks ago, I had a strong impact on a landing on my foot. At the start I thought it wasn’t something major and with couple rest weeks it would be fine. But after checking up on detail my MRI with Tarifa Centromedico it was obvious that I had suffered a partial Lisfranc dislocation which needed stabilization. Wednesday, I had the surgery and all went good, so should have a couple of months before starting to get back to the rhythm in the water, will miss the first event on Maui but I will be ready for summer. I take this as an opportunity to grow and as part of the experience I have to go through.”

LEVI SIVER

Sounds like Levi Siver has a few hamstring and muscular issues and is currently having treatment in Maui so he can hopefully be ready for the upcoming competition. Looking at some of his videos this winter on Instagram he is sailing as good as ever so could be a player to watch out for. Anyone see that crazy 360 he nailed at Ho’okipa?

JUSTINE LEMETEYER: HAMSTRING INJURY

After all the thrills and spills of her title victory in Japan at the end of last year Justine was just getting back into training for the 2026 season when she felt a sudden pain in here left hamstring. It turns out that she tore a muscle and is currently undergoing physio and treatment from here doctors. Justine hope’s to be back on the water in five weeks so hopefully the injury is not too serious and she will be back to full fitness soon.

COMPETITION ROUND UP

2026 MAUI PRO- AM

The WWT / PWA Maui Pro-Am is only a few weeks away and this year moves from a 4-star to a fully-fledged 5-star event! That means most of the big players in the wave sailing world will be headed out to Maui to hopefully kick off the season with a solid result. Current World Champion, Marc Pare has based himself mostly in Europe during the winter season with trips to Ireland, Denmark, Spain and the Canary Islands already logged. Marcilio Brown lives in Maui of course so he should be well tuned for the season opener.

BUCHAN WAVE CLASSIC

The green light has just been given for the Buchan Wave Classic up in bonny Scotland! After much deliberation event organisers have called the event on for this weekend so you better get your vans packed and head to Scotland.

WE ARE ON

We plan to kick the off the first ever BUCHAN WAVE CLASSIC on Friday 13th at Fraserburgh / Philorth…
Organizers have secured the BanCar hotel / restaurant / bar as event HQ rooms still available & space for vans…entry is still open!

CORNISH COLWATER CLASSIC

For the second consecutive year, Cornwall delivered the goods for the Cornish Coldwater Classic with up to mast high waves and solid wind over the two days of competition. The popular winner in the men’s was Andy King who is closing in on the big 50 but still ripping harder than ever and clocking up the hours on the water.

In the ladies Sarah Hilder came out on top of a competitive fleet with a solid performance in head to high waves at the Bluff.

Sam Wade was the star of the show in the juniors and then went on to win the amateur division and in doing so qualified for the pro fleet. Definitely a name to look out for alongside Eddie Maclean who also made it into the pro’s.
