What Resembles Success For Liverpool This Season
Before the start of the season and based on their summer transfer activity, it appeared that there was not going to be any let-up from shock Premier League title winners, Liverpool, who under new boss Arne Slot, by all accounts, exceeded expectations.
It effectively was the same squad of players who essentially had laboured to a top four finish under departing manager (and club legend), Jurgen Klopp, this season before, yet Slot had inspired what many would not have believed possible.
In came arguably, the most ambitiously assembled attacking force with two Premier League transfer records broken; first with Florian Wirtz and, eventually Alexander Isak, in albeit controversial circumstances. In between Huge Ekitike, had followed Wirtz from the Bundesliga. Not forgetting Mohamed Salah either, who signed a new contract.
A sprinkling of squad players, including two, seemingly quality full-backs, though they couldn’t land, arguably their most pressing target; centre-back Marc Guehi. By the end of October, after a 3-2 defeat to Brentford, the Reds were languishing outside of the top four and were on a losing streak of four games. It set the tone for the rest of the club’s season so far.
Champions League Qualification Needed
Currently the club sit in sixth, tied with Chelsea on 48 points, who are in fifth on goal difference and three points behind Aston Villa and an in-form Manchester United in fourth and third respectively.
With Slot’s future understood to be on the line, if the Reds do not qualify for the Champions League next season, his departure is likely to be inevitable. Humbled in Europe’s elite competition in the last 16, away to Galatasaray, they need to overturn a 1-0 deficit at Anfield. Achievable.

We have seen underfire Premier League clubs pull a rabbit out of the hat in the past and win the competition as considerable underdogs (even Liverpool themselves in 2004/05 – a historic victory over AC Milan). The resemblance from their situation back then is uncanny, with the Reds a breath away from being eliminated by Olympiakos at the same stage until a Steven Gerrard thunderbolt.
They need a leader to steer them through the rest of the season, if ‘success’ is still on the table and, should the unthinkable happen, for many, it will be straight onto the World Cup in the summer. It’s unlikely any downtime will be on the cards either; no doubt the US has many attractions, though if they end up in Las Vegas for any games, then reading a Vegasino Casino Review, could carry the players’ winning luck with Liverpool through onto the tables!
However Liverpool qualify for the Champions League, they do still have it all to play for, and while qualification via the Premier League is not in their hands, all they need is a run of form.
Salah Needs To Step Up
A top quality servant for the club over the years and with rumours of a summer move intensifying, Liverpool needs what would likely be a swansong from their talisman, which can see him leave on a high note. A Champions League win would be a fairytale finish and complete what would be an epic journey for the Egyptian.
While he has been off the pace all season, he does have the ability and can be the inspiration the club needs to pull off what would be a considerable shock.
