Trial begins for man accused of attempted murder in Tersefanou
The trial of a 33-year-old man accused of attempting to kill a 40-year-old with a cleaver in Tersefanou on January 18 began on Thursday at Larnaca criminal court.
The defendant faces multiple charges including attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding, causing serious bodily injury, carrying a knife, burglary, common assault, threats, harassment and psychological violence.
However, the defendant’s lawyers requested additional time before entering a plea. The court set a new date of March 20 for the accused to respond to the charges.
The case was reported to police around 7.15am on January 18 by a 46-year-old woman.
According to the complaint, the woman was in her apartment with the 40-year-old victim when the 33-year-old allegedly entered through the balcony door and attacked the man.
The suspect is then said to have gone to the kitchen, where he armed himself with a cleaver before attacking and injuring the victim in various parts of his body.
The 33-year-old also allegedly attacked the woman and threatened her life, but she escaped and was located by police in the building’s parking area, while the suspect fled.
The injured man was initially taken to Larnaca general hospital and was later transferred to Nicosia general hospital for further treatment.
