Vice President Jane Ansah Appeals for Unity, Donates to Vulnerable Groups in Lilongwe
The First Vice President of Malawi, Jane Ansah, has appealed to Malawians to promote love, honesty and unity as key pillars for community development.
Ansah made the remarks on Thursday when she visited Bwemba Village in Nchizanda under Traditional Authority Namaguya in Lilongwe, where she distributed various items to vulnerable people through the Jane Ansah Foundation.
The event, held at Bwemba Village open ground, attracted community members, party supporters and local leaders who gathered to welcome the Vice President.
Among those present were Principal Secretary Eric Yesaya, Lilongwe District Commissioner Starch Mwambila and representatives of the Tiafikile Cooperative.
Speaking during the event, Ansah emphasized the need for communities to work together in order to achieve sustainable development.
She encouraged villagers to form cooperatives, invest in agriculture and protect the environment through tree planting and other conservation activities.
“We must unite, work together and be honest if we want to prosper as communities,” she said.
During the visit, the Vice President distributed bicycles to cooperative members, maize flour to vulnerable households, and sun hats and sunscreen lotion to people living with albinism. Clothes were also donated to elderly members of the community.
Ansah also commended members of Tiafikile Cooperative for their commitment to improving their livelihoods through collective farming initiatives.
Secretary for the cooperative, Staff Misi, thanked the Vice President for supporting the group and inspiring them to work together to improve their economic wellbeing.
The Vice President also announced plans to help the cooperative register formally so that it can access more development opportunities and pledged to repair two broken water wells in the area to improve access to safe water.
Ansah said her foundation remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups such as students, the elderly and people living with albinism across the country.
