Agadir Golf in Morocco – Coaching, Courses and a February Golf Experience
It was a wonderful way to spend February: hosting a week of coaching and playing golf in Agadir, Morocco, a destination I hadn’t previously considered as a serious golf base.
Having visited Morocco during my playing years over 20 years ago, I remember the atmosphere, the colour, and the culture, but not the golf. In my mind, Agadir was surfing, souks and long Atlantic beaches.
Agadir golf wasn’t on my radar.
And yet, after five rounds across three very different courses, it became clear that golf in Agadir, Morocco, offers far more than many expect.
This particular week blended morning coaching clinics with on-course play, five rounds in total, allowing players to improve, compete and enjoy everything the destination has to offer.
Andrea joined the week with her own guests, which added a lovely dynamic. Having two groups created a relaxed yet energised atmosphere, with plenty of shared conversations, laughter and a natural exchange of ideas throughout the week.
Agadir Golf Courses – Three Distinct Experiences
Taghazout Bay Golf Club – Elevation & Atlantic Views
We stayed at Taghazout Bay Golf, with the course visible from the hotel. It was the most dramatic of the three courses we played.
Sitting high above the Atlantic, the views stretched across the bay, with surfers dotted in the water below as we stood on elevated tees. At times, you could hear the gentle hum of the waves in the distance.
The course is undulating in places, with canyon-style valleys cutting through parts of the layout. A buggy is recommended here, although many of us took trolleys, and the step count certainly climbed well into the teens. The elevation changes create some unforgettable tee shots, visually stunning and mentally engaging.
Standing there, looking out over the ocean, you feel very small, but in the best possible way.
Much of our coaching took place here. We used the private grass range and short-game area, with a bunker large enough for full group sessions. The putting green overlooked the ocean and sat beside the clubhouse, allowing guests to enjoy the scenery while practicing or having lunch.
Golf du Soleil – In the Heart of Agadir
Golf du Soleil is a 27-hole layout set around a beautiful Moroccan-style clubhouse.
The course offers a mix of narrow and generous fairways, water hazards and strong par 3s. It sits quietly in the heart of Agadir, with the gentle buzz of the city in the background, close to everything, yet still surrounded by a peaceful setting.
The three 9-hole loops give the option of variety; we chose two of the three, which was the Championship course. Its relatively flat, palm-lined design makes it playable while still demanding strategy. There are some fabulous water holes and even a drivable par 4 on the 9th, which certainly sparked a few competitive moments.
Our day here began with coaching on the range, long game, putting and short-game work; followed by lunch on the terrace before teeing off at 1 pm. Andrea walked with groups offering strategic support, while I played alongside different groups during the round. Simple thought adjustments and clearer decisions helped players score better, often without any swing changes at all.
Golf Les Dunes – Parkland with Character
Golf Les Dunes offered a different feel again. Another 27-hole course, more parkland in character, with large sculpted bunkers and fairways weaving through argan and eucalyptus trees. There’s a distinctive scent in the air, and a calm, established feel to the layout.
Relatively flat but cleverly shaped, it rewards patience and good course management, something we focused on repeatedly throughout the week.
The clubhouse is currently undergoing refurbishment and is due to reopen soon, but the service never dipped. A large grass range sits below the terrace, and two short-game areas were quiet and ready whenever we needed them.
The Coaching & Playing Balance
Morning coaching clinics gave players time to work on key fundamentals before taking those thoughts onto the course. Five rounds across three contrasting Agadir golf courses allowed everyone to apply what they were learning in different environments.
There’s something powerful about learning in the morning and testing it in real conditions that same afternoon.
Beyond the Golf
Our hotel, Hyatt Place Taghazout, overlooked the ocean, and breakfast was taken outside on the terrace with views of the pool and the sea. Half board was the choice this week, and typical Moroccan cuisine was offered every evening.
February delivered 24 degrees and sunshine for most of the week, a welcome contrast to the UK, where my home course was closed during the same period.
Midweek, we ventured into town to sample the local cuisine. The restaurants offered excellent value, and we enjoyed traditional Moroccan tagine and fresh mint while watching the surfers from the rocks. The town is full of surf shops, and charming and narrow streets leading to the bay where restaurants overlook the fishing and surfing beach. Not once were we hassled or offered to “come into my shop” if anything, the total opposite, searching to find a staff member to purchase the famous argan oil, almond and honey butter delight. Dinner was €20 for the two of us, and we had a feast for that.
Final Thought
All in all, it was a hugely enjoyable week.
Five rounds of golf across three contrasting courses. Morning coaching to help players take what they’d learnt onto the course. Welcoming staff. Excellent practice facilities. Sunshine, laughter, improvement and space to reset.
Agadir may not have been high on my radar as a Morocco golf destination before. But after experiencing these Agadir golf courses and being able to experience Moroccan culture in a safe and clean environment makes it certainly somewhere we will be looking to return to.
Agadir – we will be back. And I can’t wait.
