Luxury apartment block in Dubai hit by Iranian drone
A drone has hit a luxury skyscraper filled with homes in Dubai as Iran launches more strikes across the Middle East.
A fire spread throughout the building in Dubai Creek Harbor in the United Arab Emirates after the missile was intercepted.
Footage shows flames towards the apartment block, with all residents evacuated.
No injuries have been reported.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said: ‘UAE air defences are currently responding to missile and drone threats launched from Iran.’
The skyscraper contains luxury homes as well as hotel facilities.
Missiles have rained down on the city since Iran has launched retaliatory strikes across the Middle East since the US and Israel bombed Tehran in Operation Epc Fury.
Four people – two Ghanaian nationals, one Bangladeshi national and one Indian citizen – were injured near Dubai’s airport yesterday in a strike.
On Saturday, all flights in and out of Dubai were grounded, with one of the biggest airlines Emirates confirming they need to prioritise the safety of their staff.
Dubai International Airport usually records around 95 million passengers annually. In comparison, Heathrow, the UK’s biggest airport, handles around 84 million passengers annually.
Brits are now scrmabling to leave the city, as authorities clamp down on people videoing the strikes.
A 60-year-old British man was arrested for filming strikes, but it is against the law to share material ‘that causes public panic or harms public order’.
The navy is readying evacuation warships to be deployed to help stranded British tourists and expats in Dubai.
The RFA Lyme Bay is being placed on ‘heightened readiness’ to be sent to the eastern Mediterranean to help Brits stuck in the Middle East.
The Ministry of Defence said: ‘As part of prudent planning, we have taken the decision to bring RFA Lyme Bay to heightened readiness as a precaution, should she be needed to assist in maritime tasks in the eastern Mediterranean.’
