ABC News reported that the information was contained in a security alert issued by the FBI to law enforcement agencies across California. The notice reportedly warned authorities about a potential Iranian plan to carry out a surprise drone strike if the United States attacked Iran.

According to the alert, intelligence obtained by the FBI suggests that since early February 2026 Iran may have been preparing to launch unmanned aerial vehicles from an unknown ship near the US coast. The potential targets were described as unspecified locations in California.

However, the FBI said it currently has no further details about the timing, method, specific targets, or individuals behind the alleged plot. Officials stressed that the information remains limited and under further investigation.

The report surfaced as tensions sharply escalated between the United States, Israel, and Iran following the start of military strikes against Iranian targets.

Earlier, Donald Trump claimed that Iran had been planning attacks against Israel and American military bases in the region, saying the United States and Israel carried out preventive military actions.
