7 New AI Tools in Photoshop That Let You Edit Photos With Simple Prompts

0

Adobe is taking another major step in blending AI with creativity. The company has unveiled a new AI Assistant for Photoshop, along with updates to its Firefly Image Editor, allowing users to edit images simply by describing what they want.

The announcements signal the company’s growing focus on conversational AI tools that make design work faster and easier, even for beginners.

Here is a breakdown of the key takeaways from the new AI-powered features.

Photoshop now has a conversational AI assistant

The biggest highlight is the introduction of the AI Assistant in Photoshop, which is now available in public beta on the web and mobile devices.

According to the Adobe blog, the tool lets users make edits by simply describing what they want. Instead of navigating menus and tools, creators can type or say instructions such as removing objects, adjusting lighting, or changing colors.

“Using AI Assistant in Photoshop is as simple as describing the edits you want — like removing distractions, changing backgrounds, refining lighting, or adjusting color,” Adobe explains in its blog.

This conversational approach is designed to make complex editing tasks easier for both beginners and professionals.

The AI assistant can apply edits or teach you step by step

Another interesting feature is the flexibility in how the assistant works.

Users can choose to let the AI automatically apply the edits or ask the assistant to guide them through the process step by step. Adobe says the goal is to help users learn Photoshop while they work, not just automate tasks.

The blog explains that the tool empowers “creators at every level — from students to illustrators, marketers and beyond — to create with confidence, clarity, and speed.”

You can edit photos with voice commands

Editing images may soon feel more like talking to a digital assistant. In the Photoshop app, users can request edits using their voice, which can be helpful when working on the go.

For example, a user could ask the assistant to brighten an image, adjust colors, or remove an unwanted object, all without manually navigating the interface.

A new AI markup feature lets you draw where edits should happen

Adobe also introduced a new tool called AI Markup, currently in public beta for Photoshop on the web.

This feature lets users draw directly on an image to highlight the area they want changed, then add a prompt describing the edit. For instance, someone could circle a part of an image and ask the AI to add flowers or mountains in that specific spot. Photoshop then generates the changes within seconds.

Adobe Firefly gets a powerful new image editor

Alongside the AI Assistant, Adobe also upgraded its creative AI platform, Adobe Firefly.

The new Firefly Image Editor brings multiple AI-powered editing tools into a single workspace, making it easier to refine both AI-generated images and user-uploaded photos.

Key features now available include:

  • Generative Fill to add or replace elements in an image
  • Generative Remove to delete unwanted objects
  • Generative Expand to extend images to new sizes or aspect ratios
  • Generative Upscale to improve resolution and detail
  • Remove Background for isolating subjects with a single click

These tools aim to streamline the editing workflow for creators.

Firefly supports more than 25 AI models

One notable change in Firefly is expanded model support. According to Adobe, users can now create images using more than 25 different AI models, including options from companies such as OpenAI and Google.

Some of the supported top models include Adobe’s commercially safe models, Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation model, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 [pro].

This approach allows creators to experiment with different AI styles while staying in the same editing environment.

Users can experiment with unlimited AI generations

Adobe is also encouraging experimentation with new generation limits. For a limited time, paid Photoshop subscribers on web and mobile can generate unlimited AI results using the AI Assistant until April 9.

Meanwhile, users on the free version of Photoshop can begin with 20 free generations. Firefly customers currently have unlimited generations available when using the new image editing tools.
