Harry Redknapp makes interesting Tottenham statement when asked if he would return this week
As the pressure on Igor Tudor continues to mount, Harry Redknapp has revealed what he would do if Tottenham asked him to take the job until the end of the season.
Calls for Tudor to be sacked are now growing louder in the media, with the Tottenham hierarchy under pressure to make a big decision, less than a month after bringing the Croat through the door.
Tudor is expected to take the press conference on Friday ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Anfield on Sunday, but with four losses in four, the 47-year-old is undoubtedly on thin ice.
Reports have suggested that Spurs are considering turning to Harry Redknapp to replace Tudor as the club desperately rolls the dice in the hope of securing their Premier League status.
Harry Redknapp is not expecting a call from Tottenham
A couple of weeks ago, Redknapp admitted that he would love to have a crack at managing Spurs again, more than 15 years on from leaving White Hart Lane after his previous stint.
However, the 79-year-old has now made it clear that he does not expect a call from the North London club.
When asked if he would accept an interim role if Tottenham Hotspur offered that to him, Redknapp told The Independent: “I’ve been asked a few times if I’d go back to Spurs and it’s probably not going to happen, is it? Would I go back? Of course I would, but I doubt very much it’s going to happen.”
Redknapp fears for Spurs in relegation dogfight
The former Tottenham manager admitted that he wants to see the Lilywhites stay up, but is not confident that they will manage to do so.
He pointed out that, unlike Spurs, their two relegation rivals, West Ham and Nottingham Forest, are both producing decent performances.
Redknapp added about Tottenham’s relegation prospects: “They’ve got it all on to stay up, it’s going to be hard. I’m looking at their fixtures, and (Nottingham) Forest are playing all right, West Ham are playing very well, it’s going to be tough for Tottenham.
“My only concern at the minute is The Jukebox Man (his horse) in the Gold Cup, I’m nothing to do with Spurs any more. They haven’t been in touch, not at all. I hope Spurs stay up and I hope West Ham stay up.”
