Muttaqi Holds Talks With Oman’s Foreign Minister on Afghanistan–Pakistan Tensions
Afghanistan’s foreign minister held a phone call with Oman’s foreign minister to discuss the ongoing conflict with Pakistan and the need for diplomatic solutions to regional tensions.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, March 11 by the foreign ministry, Amir Khan Muttaqi spoke with Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and explained Kabul’s position regarding the recent clashes with Pakistan.
The ministry said the two sides discussed the latest developments in the region and emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic engagement.
Both ministers also expressed concern over recent developments in the Middle East and condemned what they described as the expansion of war in the region following US and Israeli strikes against Iran.
Fighting between Afghanistan and Pakistan began around two weeks ago and has continued along parts of the border, raising concerns about wider instability between the neighboring countries.
During this period, Pakistani forces have carried out air and rocket strikes in several Afghanistan provinces, targeting areas near the border as part of the escalating conflict.
The United Nations has reported that at least 185 people have been killed or injured in the Pakistani attacks, while more than 20,000 families have been displaced by the fighting.
Both sides have issued conflicting claims about military casualties, with officials in Pakistan and Afghan authorities each reporting losses inflicted on the other, though independent verification remains difficult.
meanwhile the reports indicated that the prolonged clashes could worsen humanitarian conditions in border areas already facing displacement and limited access to basic services.
