‘We appreciate the team’s perspective’: NBA makes decision about strip-club promotion
The National Basketball Association has intervened to cancel the Atlanta Hawks’ planned “Magic City Monday” game promotion of a local strip club.
Set for March 16, the event was to be an effort to celebrate local nude dancing venue Magic City with wings, musical performances and podcasts, the Blaze reported.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced on Monday the league was canceling the event.
After the initial announcement about the promotion, San Antonio Spurs player Luke Kornet lodged his opposition, asking the league “to protect women, not denigrate them.”
Said Silver, “When we became aware of the Atlanta Hawks’ scheduled promotion, we reached out to Hawks leadership to better understand their plans and rationale. While we appreciate the team’s perspective and their desire to move forward, we have heard significant concerns from a broad array of league stakeholders, including fans, partners, and employees.”
“I believe canceling this promotion is the right decision for the broader NBA community,” the commissioner concluded.
