Club eager to sign £73m Man Utd star in huge bargain deal, he's ready to accept pay cut
Borussia Dortmund are exploring the possibility of re-signing Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho after his season-long loan stint at Aston Villa, according to BILD.
The England international is presently on a temporary deal with the Villans, but the West Midlands outfit are unlikely to negotiate a long-term stay with the 25-year-old.
Sancho is poised to leave United when his contract expires on June 30. Foreign clubs can negotiate a pre-contract with him, and it appears Dortmund could re-sign him.
The German giants consider Sancho as a potential replacement for Julian Brandt, who is expected to leave the club on a free transfer at the expiry of his contract this summer.
Sancho’s availability on a free transfer is ‘fundamentally interesting’ for Dortmund. The player, who was signed by United for £73 million, is also willing to ‘significantly reduce’ his salary for a reunion.
Sancho may seek a big signing-on bonus from Dortmund
The Englishman’s career has been on a downward spiral over the past two years. He had an average loan stint at Chelsea and has likewise struggled for playing time with the Villans.
A return to Dortmund for a third time could revive his career. His previous loan stint produced six goal contributions from 21 games as Dortmund reached the Champions League final.
The German giants have a soft spot for Sancho, who had his formative years with them, but the attacker may still demand a sizeable signing-on bonus to accept a hefty salary cut.
This has been the norm with several free transfers in the past. Players are generally paid a big signing-on bonus so that they agree to a salary within the current squad’s wage structure.
Sancho has not quite flourished outside of the German top-flight. It seems likely he could end up playing in the Bundesliga with Dortmund for the 2026/27 campaign and beyond.
