Tottenham suffer Mauricio Pochettino blow as European giant comes sniffing around
Tottenham have a reason to be concerned as one of the biggest clubs on the planet could make a move for Mauricio Pochettino.
The expectation at Tottenham Hotspur next season is that there will be a new manager in the dugout, following Igor Tudor’s interim spell.
Whether that manager will be taking charge of Spurs in the Premier League or the Championship remains to be seen.
But several managerial names have already been linked with the Tottenham job, with Mauricio Pochettino named as the favourite.
Tottenham target Mauricio Pochettino linked with Real Madrid job
Spurs are understood to be open to reuniting with Poch, who delivered some of the fondest memories at the club in recent times, while Mauricio Pochettino has often stated that he is open to returning to Tottenham.
The hope is that both parties can finally do so this summer, but a fresh report from ESPN now claims that Tottenham might have reason to be concerned.
According to the outlet, Real Madrid are understood to have shortlisted Mauricio Pochettino as one of their candidates to replace Alvaro Arbeloa ahead of next season.
The LaLiga side is said to have begun scouting the coaching market ahead of a summer in which major structural changes are expected, which could see Arbeloa lose his job as manager.
It is claimed that the former Liverpool and Real Madrid man will need “a miracle”, or to win the Champions League, to have any chance of remaining in the dugout next season.
He replaced Xabi Alonso midway through this campaign but has yet to turn things around for the Spanish giants.
Why Real Madrid are keen on Spurs favourite Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino remains manager of the United States national team, and the expectation is that he will make a decision only after the World Cup.
The Argentine is reported to be highly regarded by President Florentino Perez, as this is not the first time Pochettino has been linked with Madrid, with a similar link emerging after he took Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final.
It is also mentioned that one of the points most valued by Los Blancos is that he coached Kylian Mbappe for two seasons in Paris.
