Lindsey Vonn Shares Inspiring Rehab Workout After Brutal Leg Injury
Three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn is on the road to recovery after suffering from a brutal injury. The alpine skiing legend crashed and broke her leg during a downhill run in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. The accident required a series of corrective surgeries.
Fast-forward about 25 days, and Vonn made a truly inspiring comeback at the gym. The Team USA sensation took to Instagram to give fans a quick update. In the clip, Vonn works through her recovery by performing leg extensions, Russian twists, dumbbell shoulder presses, and crunches with a medicine ball.
Vonn shared with fans that she’s taking things “one day at a time,” writing in the caption, "Definitely some hard times but still thankful… still working hard. The only goal is to get healthy.”

Since then, Vonn has continued to document her journey. On Monday, March 9, the skier posted on her Instagram story that she’s “finding ways to work” as she trains with the rope pull machine. She appropriately paired the clip with the song “No Days Off” by TheMastreM.
In another post, Vonn thanked her fans and followers for supporting her on this journey. She wrote in the caption, “I clawed my way back to #1 in the world after being retired for 6 years with a partial knee replacement and that alone was an incredibly achievement I won’t ever forget. Even though in a few days no one will remember that I almost won the season title, I will remember. I didn’t want to win the title to prove anything to anyone. I did it because I knew I could. I just wish I had a chance to fight until the end to try and get it.”
Vonn added that wherever her path leads, she knows she’ll find her way.
“I always do,” she wrote. “Skiing is what I love to do but it’s not who I am, There are so many reasons to be happy. So much to be thankful for.”
Vonn's Injuries
Vonn's downhill crash during the 2026 Winter Olympics came after a torn ACL, meniscus damage, and bone bruising the skier endured in her left knee during the World Cup downhill in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. The athlete's injury history extends well beyond recent months.
Vonn received a partial knee replacement in April 2024, and in January 2019, she suffered from an impact injury to her peroneal nerve, according to USA Today. The athlete also dealt with a broken ankle after crashing during a training session in New Zealand in August 2015 and sustained multiple fractures in her left knee during World Cup super-G in Andorra in February 2016. Her injuries date back to 2007.
Following her 2026 Winter Olympics crash, Vonn told fans that she has zero regrets. She wrote on Instagram, "While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the intense physical pain it caused, I have no regrets. Standing in the starting gate yesterday was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Knowing I stood there having a chance to win was a victory in and of itself. I also knew that racing was a risk. It always was and always will be an incredibly dangerous sport."
