FDA Recalls Seafood In Nine States
The FDA recalled oysters and Manila clams sold in nine states because of potential contamination with norovirus.
The oysters, harvested between Feb. 13 and March 3 by Drayton Harbor Oyster Company and the clams, harvested between Feb. 13 and March 3 by Lumini Indian Business Council were distributed to restaurants and retailers across the US.
Foods May Smell Fine
The foods may smell and taste fine, but eating raw food can lead to illness.
"Shellstock, or raw, live molluscan shellfish such as oysters and clams contaminated with norovirus can cause illness if eaten, and potentially severe illness in people with compromised immune systems," the FDA said in the notice. "Food containing norovirus may look, smell, and taste normal."
Symptoms of Norovirus
If you contract norovirus, you’ll likely experience the following gastrointestinal symptoms between 12 and 24 hours after eating them, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
- Nausea
