Kuhl's Breathable Fleece Jacket Is a Rare 25% Off at REI

Why We Love This Deal

If you're a fan of Kuhl, you need to look at REI right now and the surprising number of Kuhl deals available. These are items that typically do not go on sale very often, and Kuhl has even told us that it does not host deals on its site at all. Yet, we’ve seen everything from the brand's element-defying jackets to the ultimate convertible pants at bargain prices. There’s also a nice hooded jacket available at 25% off, one of the highest discounts you’ll ever see on Kuhl products (when sizes are still in stock), that’s making the rounds, and I’d say it’s great for what we’re facing outdoors right now.

The Kuhl Reactiv Grid Fleece Hoody is now $134 in its green “Moss Stone” colorway, a price so good on the jacket that the large size has already sold out.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Sizes Available: From small to 2XL
  • Color Options: This deal is only available in the green “moss stone” colorway.
  • Key Material: Graphene-infused yarns for adaptive heat retention
  • Key Benefits: Soft to skin, odor-resistant, breathable, full range of movement
  • Best Use Case: This is a great jacket for the highly variable temperature ranges of early spring.

I got to personally try this jacket on over the weekend at my local REI. Its grid pattern is quite eye-catching, and it was immediately memorable. The jacket is soft to the touch, the zippers (including those on the pockets) go up and down smoothly with a satisfying zip sound, and it is obvious that its material construction is top-notch.

My immediate reaction? I’m not burning. Why was this such a big deal? I received another popular fleece jacket, Columbia’s Steens Mountain 2.0, over the winter and made the mistake of trying it on in a warm house, and the immediate wave of heat was overbearing. Kuhl made the Reactiv to be reactive and regulate temperature on the fly, even providing high warmth in really cold situations, and I have no doubts about its ability to do so from my moments with it.

Finally, a word on sizing. If, like me, you typically like to go a size up in outerwear, continue to do so here. Something about the square design of the jacket and its apparent lightness made me think I might be able to get away with a small one for once, but I found my regular medium jacket size allowed for the best mobility possible. That being said, the small was fine, but the medium just felt better.

What Shoppers Are Saying

The big deal about this jacket is that it confuses shoppers about what it’s actually doing, and much to their delight, it feels good either way.

For example, one person said the jacket was “so warm it feels like sitting by a fire” despite the thin, lightweight nature of the jacket. Another described using it as a layer in their get-up for 40-degree NYC weather, the total opposite of my experience here in Florida, and described being happily warm.

Another shopper said, “It's a strange mix of being just warm enough and cool enough at the same time, hard to explain.” And I think they really hit the nail on the head.

The Kuhl Reactiv Grid Fleece Hoody is 25% off right now as part of the large number of Kuhl deals at REI during this critical period of seasonal change. Despite that, I'd highly recommend checking out the rest of what REI has to offer from Kuhl before it sells out.
