Exhibitions opening this week

Cyprus welcomes several new exhibitions this week, taking place in Nicosia, Paphos and Limassol. First up, and with a special heart-warming message and purpose is the experiential exhibition Behind Her Smile – Two Portraits, One Truth by the non-profit organisation EndoMarch Cyprus.

Happening for just one day at the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation in Nicosia, the exhibition presents the personal stories of women living with endometriosis through photographic portraits and interpretive narratives by eight well-known actresses. Via their images, the event sheds light on the unseen aspects of a painful experience that affects the health and daily lives of thousands of women. The exhibition will open at 6.30pm, this Friday.

Also opening this Friday in Nicosia is Rinos Stefani new exhibition at Gloria Gallery – The Man Who Carries Holes. His showcase will run until early April and at the opening event, introductory remarks will be made by visual artist Christos Foukaras and musician-composer Evagoras Karageorgis.

Shinning the spotlight on analogue photography is an exhibition by Sergei Trunin in Paphos titled Wabi-Sabi. Opening on Friday and running until April 5, the exhibition at Pafos Underground gallery highlights the technical errors of analogue shooting and printing as a working artistic tool and a way to slow down the gaze and overestimate a non-paradox story.

Taking inspiration from the Japanese notion of wabi-sabi (finding beauty in imperfection), the exhibition looks at the art of analogue photography through its inconsistent and incomplete phases, presenting its aesthetics through a new lens. Happy coincidences that appear during shooting or the printing process give new meaning to the status of the image.

In Limassol, the first LEGO Exhibition in Cyprus will open its doors on Saturday, welcoming children and adults to an interactive exhibition. Held at Agias Zonis 36, the grounds will host rare LEGO collections, LEGO-building stations, a massive and immersive photo zone, and other interactive corners, making it a unique family experience.
