This collaboration will provide payments infrastructure that is secure, scalable and travel-native, the companies said in a March 3 press release.
Travelsoft Pay offers a platform designed to automate pay-ins and pay-outs, reduce operational complexity and provide transparency and control to travel companies, according to the release.
It is a new payment company within the Travelsoft Group, a company whose platforms power booking and operational workflows in the travel industry and process €50 billion in annual travel gross merchandise value, the release said.
“Having spent 25 years creating technology that connects the global travel ecosystem, we know what our clients need — reliability, transparency and trust,” Travelsoft Group CEO Christian Sabbagh said in the release. “By combining Mastercard’s world-class technology with Travelsoft Pay’s API-first platform, we are ensuring that every buyer, supplier and traveler can transact safely, smoothly and confidently.”
MWP facilitates the use of virtual card number-based travel payments, which give travel intermediaries payments that are flexible, secure and instantly generated, per the release.
“Together, Mastercard and Travelsoft Pay are enabling a secure and scalable B2B payment infrastructure that’s shaping the future of travel and payments,” Chiara Quaia, senior vice president, B2B travel at Mastercard, said in the release. “Our partnership is eliminating friction through empowering the entire value chain — from booking to final settlement.”
The PYMNTS Intelligence and Flywire collaboration “Smart Receivables Playbook: Rethinking Payments Processing After the Pandemic” found in 2022 that 62% of large travel operators viewed B2B payouts as a significant pain point and were looking at technology to streamline cash flow.
The report also found that 24% of travel and tourism financial executives said taking too long to receive payments was a top challenge.
Virtual card number technology is designed to deliver commercial payments that are seamless and consumer-like, Mastercard said in March 2025 when launching a program to boost the adoption of the technology.
Mastercard said at the time that it was working with partners to streamline the implementation of VCNs into corporate workflows.
