Who Is the New Lady Whistledown? Bridgerton Fans Think It’s One Of These 4 Characters
At the end of Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2, Penelope retires as Lady Whistledown. And then, in the final episode, a new Whistledown appears.
The voice is still Julie Andrews. But the cadence is different. The tone is harsher. Meaner. And the internet has been spiraling ever since.
The ‘Mamamia Watch Party’ podcast broke down the four strongest theories making the rounds on TikTok and Reddit right now:
The most-liked theory online, with thousands of upvotes, is that it’s still Penelope. She told the Queen she was done, but nobody knows what the terms of their bet actually were. One theory suggests the Queen’s condition was that Penelope had to come back as Whistledown but pretend to retire, so she could return to being a wallflower and gather gossip again. When the new Whistledown drops, Penelope is shown writing at her desk and doesn’t look Colin in the eye.
The second strongest theory is Brimsley. He was promoted to main cast this season and barely spoke. He attends every function with Queen Charlotte, stands in the background of everything, and would have motive to bring her joy after Lady Danbury’s departure. The tone fits a man.
Third is Cressida, possibly with Eloise. The smoking gun is a close-up of Cressida’s fingers in the finale stained with iron gall ink. High society women use blotting paper. Ink stains are the mark of someone doing their own writing.
Fourth is Alice Mondrich, the Queen’s new lady in waiting, who tells her husband in the finale she wants to do something of meaning with her position.
Nobody knows. That’s the point. And Bridgerton Season 5 will keep us all on our toes, waiting to find the Easter Egg that explains it all.
