'Super Mario Galaxy Movie' Unveils Yoshi Voice Actor
Weeks ago, Nintendo teased the inclusion of Yoshi in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2023's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which will release on April 1. During the trailer reveal, we heard the classic Mario franchise character speak — but only briefly, to reveal his own name. Now, we're getting a better glimpse to his portrayal in the new film.
Actor, musician, comedian, writer, and all-around man who wears many hats, Donald Glover will provide the voice of the lovable green dinosaur, according to a report by Variety. As an actor, Glover is probably best known as Troy Barnes in the cult comedy Community, which ran from 2009 to 2014, as well as the lead role in FX's critically acclaimed show Atlanta, which he also created. Geeks and gamers may recognize him more from the 2018 prequel movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, where he portrayed Lando Calrissian.

In addition to Glover, Luis Guzmán (Wednesday, We're the Millers,Narcos) will play Wart. An antagonistic frog and leader of the 8-bit gang, Wart has appeared in both the Mario and Legend of Zelda games. Similarly, Issa Rae (Insecure, Barbie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) will voice Honey Queen. As for Honey Queen, sometimes known as Queen Bee, the character appeared in the original Super Mario Galaxy games, as well as Mario Kart 7 and Dr. Mario World.
These new additions will be joining Chris Pratt and Charlie Day, who voice brothers Mario and Luigi, respectively. Jack Black (Bowser), Anya Taylor-Joy (Peach), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad) will also reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel.
New voice actors added to the new film cast include the Oscar-winning Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, as well as Benny Safdie, who will provide the voice of Bowser Jr. There are several nods to classic Mario franchise characters in promotional material for the upcoming animated sequel, including Mouser, Birdo, and T-Rex, although it's not known if their appearances will be spoken parts.
