Tottenham urged to consider ex-Everton boss to replace struggling Igor Tudor

Darren Bent has now urged Tottenham Hotspur to consider the appointment of Sean Dyche amid a run of poor results under Igor Tudor.

Igor Tudor has so far found life at Tottenham Hotspur difficult, with the Croatian still unable to turn Spurs’ Premier League fortunes around.

The Lilywhites have not looked any better under the 47-year-old, having lost all three games since he was appointed as interim manager, following the sacking of Thomas Frank.

That has put pressure on Tudor, with former Tottenham players calling for the Spurs boss to be sacked as relegation looms large.

Darren Bent suggests Sean Dyche move

Spurs’ stance on Tudor has since emerged, with the Lilywhites believed to be unwilling to change their manager for the second time this season.

However, former Tottenham forward Darren Bent is far from convinced that it is the right move for Spurs to take. He explained that keeping a manager simply because he has not been in the job long enough can be dangerous.

Speaking about the situation, Bent told TalkSport: “I just think you cannot just keep someone in charge of a football club just because they have not been there that long.

“If you genuinely believe and sense that he is not the right man and he is not getting anything out of the players, then you almost just walk into relegation.”

Bent then warned about the potential embarrassment Tottenham could face if results do not improve. He added:

“Regardless if people are laughing at you now, come the end of the season, you want to hope you are still in the Premier League, because if you are not, that would be the biggest laugh.”

The former Tottenham forward also suggested who the club should turn to if Tudor is dismissed, arguing that a pragmatic appointment could help Spurs grind out results. Bent said:

“They need a manager that is going to go in there and just make them organised and hard to beat.

“And as I said, for the next couple of weeks, it might be horrible to watch, but if you are nicking 1-0s, getting draws, picking up points, it does not matter.

“Sean Dyche, right now, for me would be the perfect man for Tottenham. Because one thing he can do is get teams organised, hard to beat.

“I get it, Spurs fans might not want that, but at some point you have got to go, ‘Do you know what? We just need someone who is going to keep us up.’

“You just need someone who is going to steady the ship and make you hard to beat,” Bent concluded.

“There is no point getting someone in there that plays all this attractive football, gets you on the front foot – because you are too easy to play against.”

Teddy Sheringham questions Igor Tudor system

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham has also questioned the direction Spurs are heading tactically under Tudor.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Sheringham argued that Tottenham’s players should be performing better and suggested the current system is causing problems across the pitch.

“Without a doubt [Spurs have the players to stay up, but need a new manager].

“You put those players in their rightful positions playing in a system that they understand and they know.

“I mean, playing three at the back against one centre forward in the last couple of games…

“If you have got three against one in defence, you are getting overrun somewhere else on the pitch.

“It has just been naughty viewing, it is horrible, it needs to change drastically, otherwise they are going to slide away.”

When asked where he believes Tottenham will finish, Sheringham admitted it could depend on who is in charge for the next few games.

“It depends on who is in charge for the next few games.

“Things change very quickly, you have seen it with Michael Carrick… Tottenham is different to Manchester United, but you need someone with the feeling of the club as well.”

Sheringham then gave a blunt response when asked whether Spurs will stay up if Tudor remains in charge.

“No.”
